Keep breathing!
As the Christmas period approaches whatever your commitments are over the period remember to breathe!
The practice of full yogic breathing is not a practice that should be left behind once the class is over but should be used more often. You will find that if you integrate this practice whilst at home, or at work, you will feel better, and your digestive system will improve, particularly helpful at a time when we are likely to over indulge in food and drink!
Breathing deeply and fully also helps to calm the nerves, which is something you may find helpful when embarking on a new project or venture, meeting someone for the first time, or performing in front of a crowd. Feeling calm will help make your time with others, whoever they are, more enjoyable.
Student Activities
Kirsty Barber, who attends the Your Yoga class in Bury, also sings in a choir. In addition to singing in a choir she enters competitions as a solo artist and recently she entered a competition singing the classical song Time to Say Goodbye (cover).
As the competition nerves started to set in, she set herself down on the floor and practiced her pranayama (breath regulation practices) which she says helped to calm her nerves before performing, despite some of the ‘funny’ looks she was getting. The result of the competition was that she won.
To see her singing the song, so beautifully too, click on the photo of Kirsty which will take you to the Youtube.com website.
Charity Fundraising
Bury Hospice
You may be aware that in September I was part of a group of 8 teachers who taught a number of classes under the theme of a Yogathon. It was held at the Bolholt Hotel, Stables Gym raising funds for Bury Hospice. The event was well attended and over £1,300 was raised through donations, sponsorship and tickets from the people of Bury and Bolton. Thank you to all Your Yoga students who attended and made donations.
Bolton Hospice
On the 15th January 2012 a Yoga themed fund raising event is being held in Bolton to raise funds for Bolton Hospice. If you wish to make a donation or attend the event please click on the following link: Bolton Hospice.
